DUBLIN SCHOOLS PROGRAMMES
RELATIONSHIP AND SEXUALITY PROGRAMME FOR TRANSITION YEAR STUDENTS
This is a four and a half hour programme delivered over three one and a half hour sessions by trained facilitators.
The aims of the programme are:
- To develop relationship skills such as communication and conflict management.
- To increase understanding of the impact of family of origin on relationships thus increasing self-awareness.
- To give the students an opportunity to explore such topics as the impact of children on relationships, responsibility, commitment and pressures surrounding these topics.
- To give practical information on reproduction, sexually transmitted diseases etc
- To assist the students in making informed choices
The overall aim of this programme is to give students a unique opportunity to discuss all aspects of relationships with a trained facilitator in a safe respectful environment.
So often in today's society young people are being bombarded with negative information and views on marriage and relationships and we would hope to offer a more balanced view as well as giving information and advice.
Although the programme was designed for transition year students it is equally suitable for 5th and 6th years. It can be used in conjunction with other personal development programmes already initiated in some schools and is invaluable where no other programmes are in place.
